Would You Get A Smart Car?

So, at the gym I'm reading this article from October last year covering the Smart Car made by Mercedes. I didn't know it was brainstormed by Penske, the man behind the Penske trucks, but I do know it's a car that has been getting a lot of attention. Especially in cities like my hometown, San Francisco, where parking can be quite the challenge. It has become the common sight on the streets. Following, Eric and I have chatted about it on several occasions, and lastly we discussed this passed weekend, would I get one?

I admit there's a tantalizing factor to this little compact vehicle when it catches your attention coming down the street. It's SO tiny! I see the benefits of its size when the owner parks it in a spot that otherwise seems WAY too little for the average sedan. With that said though, the Smart car doesn't drive faster than 90 mph, according to the article I read. And, it's obvious there's not much room inside this vehicle, which only fits two people (at the least in the models I've seen around town) and definitely not your Cosco run of groceries in the trunk. So, here I go, why? If you can't fit more than one passenger and struggle to fit much in the trunk, you might as well get a bike, a scooter, or the like. The only benefit the Smart car would provide, beyond what any two-wheeler already offers, would be shielding my cold-sensitive body from the wind. And, loh and behold, is there a lot of wind to be shielded from in this town!?! I'm one to freeze a lot which explains why you don't (and won't) see me on a Vespa around town. However wind proof, the Smart car doesn't quite make up for the lack of speed and space it suffers from.

In continuation of the car debate I got lost in cyberspace a couple days ago, and I wound up on the Mini Cooper web-site through their volunteer link 'Motored Hearts'. Now, this little creature of a ride made my love-motored heart skip a beat, and it swept my feet away under me. I'd rather get a Mini Cooper which seems to offer the space saving benefits of the Smart car, yet, it manages to keep the speed, comfort, and feel of luxury that a car will give you any day over taking the bus, or riding your bike. Anyhow, the Cooper is an entirely different conversation, but I'm still curious to know, what are your thoughts on the Smart car?

Regardless, do you see now why I need a job? How else will I proudly be part of this economy...and proudly strut my Mini around town? With my Honey next to me? And perhaps my Schnoodle? Yup, so keep your fingers crossed for my phone interview tomorrow at 10am pretty please.

In the mean time I've got blueberry cobbler in the oven, and Ahi Tuna steaks waiting to sizzle on my skillet. Talk to you later, or even better, come on over for a bite :-)
